Who Invented Science?

What do you think of when you hear the word “science?” Lab coats? Microscopes? Einstein? Dissection? Or just the class right before lunch?  Science may be these, but it’s much, much more.

It’s not just a class, or an experiment, or a wild-haired genius. It’s a way of knowing that focuses on the natural world. That’s why scientists can investigate chemicals, comets, and caves but not zombies, magic, or fairies.

Scientific investigations must use testable ideas. In science, it’s not enough just to wonder- you must come up with a way to measure what you’re interested in. That leads to a test.  Then you consider the evidence you’ve collected and draw conclusions. You may imagine what it’d be like to live on a different planet, but scientists actually investigate how that might be possible someday.
